PENGARUH RASIO MASSA BIJIH BESI DENGAN REDUKTOR ARANG KAYU DAN TEMPERATUR REDUKSI PADA PROSES REDUKSI LANGSUNG


Indonesia has quite a lot of resources and reserves of iron ore. Unfortunately,
there are still a lot of iron ore being exported in Indonesia’s industrial sector
because of the expensive process. The lack of research about the direct reduction
with biomass reductant causes the necessity of a simple technology to be used in
the process the iron ore by using the local reductant to save the production cost
and create an environmental friendly technologies.
Iron ore used in this research is the kind of laterite iron ore originated from
Borneo Island. While the reducing agent used is the wood charcoal. Variable used
in this research is variable temperature from 700oC, 800oC, 900oC, 1000oC with
the mass comparison of 1: 2 and 1: 4. The process is carried out in a muffle
furnace for 30 minutes for a process of reduction. Later on, the characterizations
of the samples has done by using XRD to find out the optimization of the process
and see the result of a qualitative reduction process.
The highest reduction results contained a mass of 1: 4 with a temperature of
1000oC. On the sample, product reduction of iron (Fe), wustite (FeO) and
hematite (Fe3O4) are obtained.
